Family meals are an easy way to create a lasting connection, and I’m always trying to find the right balance between a busy week day and family dinners. 1. Plan Ahead. Include breakfast in your weekly meal plan & stock your pantry with basics like a selection of your favorite jams and premium quality breads like Cobblestone Bread Co.’s new selection of bagels and English muffins.

2. Keep it simple. A good old fashioned fry up is great, but if you’ve got a busy day planned, focus on a menu with easy to prepare recipes that are not only simple to cook, but cut out all the fuss of a heavy clean up. Breakfast can account for up to a third of your daily nutrition intake, something as simple as a few bagels, soft boiled eggs and fruit gives you everything you need to keep you fueled until lunchtime.

3. Get everyone involved. From setting the table to cooking the meal, making it a family activity drives home the value of family time and healthy eating.

4. Linger. Allow at least an hour for a family breakfast and avoid the temptation to over-plan your weekend morning. Taking the time to just sit and enjoy the moment is one of the best parts about a family breakfast.

5. Create a conversation topic. In our house, ask “Best Part/Worst Part”. This simple table topic allows us all to connect and share our stories of the past week. And without fail, someone always brings up a knock-knock joke.
