Opening your doors to friends and neighbors is an important part of creating a home full of memories, and when you add food to the mix, it breathes new life into your kitchen, making it the heart of the home once again. Attending progressive dinners is a favourite past time of mine, however, I have a new favourite….the supper club, thanks to the new book Friends at the Table by Debi Shawcross. In the book, Debi writes that the supper club is a dinner that encourages community, with members committing to meet regularly to strengthen relationships. After reading her book I was intrigued to find out more about the super club revolution, and discovered that many people are bringing together an eclectic mix of members — well beyond good friends and family, and inviting shop keepers, florists, comunity personalities and a whole new dimension to the conversation and the lessons to be learned by opening your doors to not only friends, but members of your community.
This spring I am hosting my first supper club and expect a lively interaction from the butcher, the florist, friends, neighbors and school teachers that will be gracing our table. Thanks to Debi, I have the perfect menu lined up for our inaugural dinner:
Apart from the great menu ideas, Debi also spends time showing you how to form and host a successful supper club & great ideas for dressing the perfect table, for your own copy of Friends at the Table, pop over to Amazon.com to pre-order your copy – Mine is only a few weeks old and already it is dog eared and much loved. You can connect with Debi on Facebook and Twitter, or meet her in person.
